25 Days of Giving Thanks – Day 12 – Coffee

Welcome to Day 12 of our Giving Thanks project. Yesterday was Veterans Day so hopefully, you took a few moments to reflect on the sacrifices that these brave men and women have made for each one of us. Freedom is not free, for too many, it cost them their life. We thank and honor them every day, not just on Veterans Day. If you missed that post, you can find it here: Veterans Day

After such a serious topic, let’s take a little break….a coffee break that is! I love coffee and drink a cup or three every morning. I’m not alone here. According to Statistica, almost half of 18 to 24-year-olds drink coffee, and almost 70 percent of seniors do as well. Not only are seniors more likely to be coffee drinkers than their younger cohorts, but they drink almost three times as many cups per day as well.

Coffee’s health benefits

According to Statistica, there are several recent studies have shown that coffee drinking may have more positive effects than just keeping you energized. Some studies have shown a reduction in mortality among regular coffee drinkers, especially older drinkers. Furthermore, there’s some indication that coffee may boost cognitive performance in the elderly when it is normally declining. That good news huh?

A growing body of research has shown that coffee has other health benefits too. Researchers from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health reviewed a large body of evidence and found that consumption of three to five standard cups of daily coffee may in fact reduce the risk of several chronic diseases including Type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and certain cancers. Yahooo – this is great news for all coffee drinkers!

I don’t need to drink coffee to be awesome. I’m already awesome. But it’s more fun when I’m awesome and awake.

So whatever your coffee preference is, I hope you are enjoying a big cup of it while you are reading this. The real truth is that I thought I liked coffee until I realized that I just like the flavored creamer and the whipped cream that I often add 🙂

Until next time, keep looking for the goodness around you!

With gratitude,

Denise 🙂
