Welcome to Day 15 of our Giving Thanks project. Yesterday we gave thanks for quiet mornings. I love being awake before everyone else and listening to the earth come alive each day. It is the most peaceful time of the day. If you missed that post, you can find it here: Quiet Mornings.
Today is a brisk morning in Pennsylvania. But even with a chilly breeze and impending rain, it is still easy to appreciate the landscape around us. We are fortunate to live on this amazing planet but we need to do our part to preserve it for future generations.
Did you know that today is “AMERICA RECYCLES DAY?” Each year on November 15, millions of people across the United States take part in America Recycles Day. The day raises awareness about recycling and the purchasing of recycled products.
How we recycle and reuse products are important. For example, one-use water bottles flood America’s waterways and landfills at a rate of 60 million per day. Reducing this number can be achieved with water filtration devices and using portable re-usable drinking bottles and cups (Source: National Day Calendar).
I have several reusable water bottles that I love so I’ve all but eliminated my use of plastic water bottles. I am embarrassed to admit it but I only recently started to recycle plastic, cans, glass, etc. We now have a full recycling station in our garage where we sort everything into bins until we take it to the recycling center. I do wish it was easier to recycle in our town as I think more folks would participate if it was more convenient. Do you recycle at your house? If so, do you have any tips you would like to share?
I think that most of us love and appreciate being outdoors and spending time in nature. We must do our part to keep our earth beautiful, clean, and healthy so that our great great great grandchildren can experience the same joy that we have when we go hiking in the woods or swimming in the ocean. So today, let be grateful for nature and be mindful of what we need to do to leave the earth in a better place tomorrow.
Until next time, keep looking for the goodness around you.
With gratitude,
Denise 🙂
