Welcome to Day 8 of our Giving Thanks project. Yesterday we talked about the beautiful summer-like weather that has been occurring in the Northeast United States. Some folks call these warm November days an “Indian Summer.” Looks like it will continue for a few more days so get outside and soak it up before the chilly air returns. If you missed that post, you can find it here: Indian Summer
On this beautiful Sunday morning, I thought it would be appropriate to talk about the power of faith. According to Dictionary.com the word “Faith” has multiple meanings, for example:
- confidence or trust in a person or thing
- a belief that is not based on proof
- belief in God or in the doctrines or teachings of religion
- belief in anything, as a code of ethics, standards of merit, etc.
- a system of religious belief
I have been leaning on my faith lately, trusting that everything happens for a reason, trusting that God has a plan for me, and everyone else for that matter, and trusting that everything is gonna be okay with the world. I’m sure you would all agree that this past year has been troubling on many levels.
I am a person of faith, which brings me great peace and comfort. I don’t try to push my beliefs on anyone else, but I can tell you that putting my trust in God has profoundly changed my mindset and dramatically decreased my anxiety.
A 2018 study from the Pew Research Center, indicated the majority of Americans (90%) believe in some kind of higher power, with 56% professing faith in God as described in the Bible and another 33% saying they believe in another type of higher power or spiritual force. Only one-in-ten Americans say they don’t believe in God or a higher power of any kind.
Furthermore, this same study indicated that almost half (48%) of U.S. adults believe God determines what happens to them most or all of the time. Nearly eight-in-ten U.S. adults think God or a higher power has protected them, and two-thirds of Americans say they have been rewarded by the Almighty.
I am thankful for my faith and deeply grateful for the many blessings that have been bestowed upon me. Are you a person of faith? Do you believe in a higher power? What do you have to be grateful for today?
Until next time, keep looking for the goodness around you –
With gratitude,
Denise 🙂
