25 Days of Giving Thanks – Day 3 – Right to Vote

Welcome to Day 3 of our Giving Thanks project. Yesterday we talked about how fortunate we are to have a home, whatever that home may look like. I think about this a lot lately since I now witness homelessness every day. If you missed that post, you can find it here: Thankful for a home

Since today is November 3, Election Day in the United States, I thought it would be very fitting to reflect on our right to vote. I believe it is important that we understand that as Americans, we are very fortunate to live in a democracy, where the people get to elect their governmental leaders. This is not the case in many countries, even in 2020.

In an earlier post, I talked about the fact that women were not allowed to vote in the U.S. until 1920, just 100 years ago. If you missed that post, you find it here: Be the Change. I believe that many Americans take this right (and responsibility) for granted because, for most of us, it is all we know.

This post is not meant to be a history lesson or a political message. It is merely meant to remind us all that we are fortunate to live in this great country, where we have the freedom to vote. Yes, we have much to be thankful for.

If you are eligible to vote, I encourage you to get out and make your voice heard. I keep hearing that this is the most important presidential election in our lifetime. I already voted. I voted for KINDNESS. Kindness will always get my vote.

Until next time, keep looking for the goodness around you.

With deep gratitude –

Denise 🙂
