25 Days of Giving Thanks – Day 7 – Indian Summer

Welcome to Day 7 of our Giving Thanks project. Yesterday we celebrated the 4 legged members of our family and all of the other pets that we love. Our animals are a source of endless joy and pride. Let’s be incredibly thankful for the positive impact they have on our life. If you missed that post, you can find it here: Pets

If you’re fortunate enough to live in the Northeast part of the country, then you’ve been enjoying some amazing weather lately. It is sunny and 75 degrees in Philadelphia today. We’re expecting this weather to continue for several more days (YAY)! When I was growing up, my mom used to call this kind of weather an “Indian Summer”. Have you heard of Indian Summer?

According to the Farmer’s Almanac, “Indian summer” is a phrase most North Americans use to describe an unseasonably warm and sunny patch of weather during autumn. In the northeastern part of the United States, this phenomenon is generally observed anywhere from mid-October to early November and normally occurs after the first frost. The warm temperatures are usually accompanied by dry, hazy conditions.

There is some controversy about the origins and meaning of the term, but nevertheless, we love the idea of an extra summer, especially if we’ve had to put on our winter coats or scrape the frost off the windshield already.

I’m going to take full advantage of this weather by putting away my deck furniture, cleaning up the remains of my sad, wilted garden, and walking in the woods. I hope that you are spending some quality time outdoors during this Indian Summer. Feel free to share what you are doing during this beautiful stretch of summer weather.

Until next time, keep looking for the goodness around you.

With gratitude-

Denise 🙂
