25 Days of Giving Thanks – Day 14 – Quiet Mornings

Welcome to Day 14 of our Giving Thanks project. Yesterday we celebrated World Kindness Day, a day dedicated to being kind to others, yourself, and the world we live in. I hope you had an opportunity to spread some kindness yesterday. Every little bit helps. If you missed that post, you can find it here: World Kindness Day.

Well, it’s Saturday morning. It was a calm and quiet morning at my house. The air was chilly in Pennsylvania but that’s what you get in the middle of November. I love the mornings. I never used to be a morning person, but that has changed as I’ve gotten older. To be honest, I have to get up to pee long before 6 am now. What’s up with that?

I love the quiet before everyone else is awake. I love seeing the sunrise. I love seeing the world come to life. When the weather is warm, I love sitting on my deck with a cup of coffee, while the squirrels and birds do what they do.

Are you a morning person? If you are a morning person like I am, that may mean that we are happier than our “night owl” counterparts. According to Restonic.com, researchers from the University of Toronto in Canada studied the sleep habits and moods of more than 700 adults and discovered that morning people (those who woke at 7 am or earlier) self-reported 25% happier. Researchers cite increased exposure to morning light, which can reduce the incidence of depression and increase energy levels.  Night owls who miss that extra exposure to the sun may actually be missing out on a lot of health benefits. Who knew, right?!?

“Sometimes just lie in bed, don’t make an effort to rush off into the morning, listen to the earth rouse from sleep and you’ll understand how perfect life is designed to be.”

So today, and everyday, I am thankful for quiet mornings, and every morning for that matter. Today is a good day for a good day, don’t you think?

Until next time, keep looking for the goodness around you.

With gratitude,

Denise 🙂
