Welcome to Day 22 of our Giving Thanks project. Yesterday we talked about spending cozy evenings at home with our loved ones. I love curling up on the couch with a fuzzy blanket, a warm cup of tea, a good movie. If you missed that post, you can find it here: Cozy Evenings.
Since we’re all staying home so much these days, let’s talk about another of life’s little treats … afternoon naps. My husband and I often joke about needing a “4’oclock nap” on the weekend. We usually get up pretty early on the weekends and after a busy day of running errands, shopping, doing yard work, etc., I am always excited to catch a 20 or 30-minute nap before dinner. Does that mean I’m getting old?
According to WebMD, a nap is better than caffeine if you’re feeling tired but have work to get done. Skip the coffee because compared to caffeine, napping can bring better memory and learning.
Studies show that a 20-minute power nap in the afternoon provides more rest than 20 minutes more sleep in the morning. The body seems to be designed for this, as most people’s bodies naturally become more tired in the afternoon, about 8 hours after we wake up (source: Very Well Mind).
It’s funny how the little things in life can bring you so much joy. I’m always thankful for the rare opportunity to catch a nap in the afternoon, especially on a weekend, how about you?
Until next time, keep looking for the goodness around you.
With gratitude –
Denise 🙂
