Welcome to Day 23 of our 25 Days of Giving Thanks project. Yesterday was a perfect day for an afternoon nap. I am thankful for those rare, relaxing moments when I can squeeze in a nap around 4 pm. There is something so rejuvenating about a 20-minute nap on the couch. If you missed that post, you can find it here: Afternoon Naps.
Because Thanksgiving is just a few days away, I wanted to remind everyone to think about our neighbors at this challenging time, after all, it was neighborly love that created the whole concept of Thanksgiving almost 400 years ago. According to History.com, in 1621, the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Native Americans shared an autumn harvest feast that is acknowledged today as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies.
I have been incredibly fortunate to have lots of good neighbors in my lifetime. I’ve lived in several different places and for the most part, I’ve always had good neighbors around me. Let’s not take our good neighbors for granted this year. I am thankful that my mother’s neighbors keep an eye on her and help her with some yard work and other chores that are hard for her. I am thankful that my neighbors are friendly and we all look out for each other. Are you lucky enough to have good neighbors in your community?
As we are all planning a small or scaled-down version of Thanksgiving to help stop the spread of COVID, please don’t forget to check on your neighbors, especially those with a limited support system or few resources. It is especially important this year we extend a helping hand to those that need a little extra help.
2020 has been really hard on many of our friends and neighbors and the holidays will make these difficulties even more challenging. So if you can help others, please do, and if you need a little extra help this year, don’t be ashamed to ask. There are lots of good neighbors out there who are able and willing to share.
Until next time, keep spreading goodness all around you.
With gratitude –
Denise 🙂
